Prince William could reportedly remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles once he becomes King, according to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield.

Speaking to Sky News Australia, Schofield claimed she had it on "good authority" that the Prince of Wales plans to take action when he ascends the throne.

“I have it on good authority that Prince William wants to strip them [Harry and Meghan] of their titles,” Schofield said, adding that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are seeking “reassurance” this won’t happen, particularly as losing their titles could hurt their commercial value.

A friend of King Charles told the Daily Beast: “It’s outrageous. Every time you think they can’t make it worse, they make it worse."

"The deal with the HRH was a way to stop them cashing in while letting them walk away with pride and dignity and trust and now Markle is using her HRH on a website which seems to exist to sell jam.”

Another royal insider suggested Meghan may be “testing the water” with this move. “She can say, ‘Well, I just wanted to publish this nice letter to raise awareness for Ukraine, and oops! they got my name wrong—but oh, actually, now I think of it, I never gave the title up anyway.’”

Did Meghan Markle use the 'HRH' title?

The claim comes amid renewed scrutiny over Meghan Markle’s use of royal styling in a recent social media post.

While she did not refer to herself directly as “Her Royal Highness,” she shared a letter from Ukraine’s Vice President that addressed the couple using that title: “Your Royal Highness, I would like to express my sincere thanks for everything your family is doing for Ukraine.”

The letter was posted online following Harry’s secret trip to Ukraine to support wounded veterans as part of his work with the Invictus Games Foundation.

Despite the goodwill generated by the visit, critics focused on the reappearance of the “HRH” title, which the couple agreed to stop using after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
