Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out against the harsh criticism she has faced over her appearance, shutting down trolls who have accused her of “aging badly.”
In a powerful video shared on Instagram, the Stranger Things star addressed the intense public scrutiny she has endured while growing up in the spotlight.
“I want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me. Something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny,” she began.
Reflecting on her journey from a child star to a young woman, Millie called out those who refuse to accept that she has changed.
“I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things season one. And because I don’t, I’m now a target,” she shared.
The actress didn’t hold back in calling out media outlets and social media users who have dissected her looks and choices.
“This isn’t journalism. This is bullying. The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices—it’s disturbing. The fact that some of these articles are written by women? Even worse,” she said.
Millie further criticized the double standards young women face in the public eye.
“We always talk about supporting and uplifting young women, but when the time comes, it seems easier to tear them down for clicks. Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs,” she wrote.
"I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself”, she added.
"If you have a problem with that, I have to wonder," she said, "what is it that actually makes you so uncomfortable?"
"Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing”, she said ending the video.
Her message resonated with many fans, who praised her for standing up against online bullying and unrealistic expectations placed on young female celebrities. As Millie continues to navigate fame on her own terms, she remains firm in pushing back against toxic scrutiny.
In a cover interview with Vanity Fair, earlier this month, the Stranger Things star, 20, addressed her early marriage, saying it was a thoughtful and well-planned decision rather than a rushed one.
"We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want," she shared.
"It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him."
