BTS wins Worldwide Icon of the Year for 6th time at MAMA awards 2023

BTS won big at the MAMA awards 2023!

The South Korean boy group took home two coveted trophies, one for Worldwide Icon of the Year and Worldwide Fans’ Choice award.

The day one of the awards show was wrapped up by crowning the world famous band as the winners in the wake of their ongoing hiatus. 

This marked their sixth time they have been awarded this title.

In a pre-recorded video acceptance speech, Jungkook representing the Bangtan Boys, thanked fans for their “unwavering love” and support.

Alongside BTS, the Worldwide Fans’ Choice award was also awarded to nine other acts, including Enhypen, Ateez, Lim Young-woong, Seventeen, NCT Dream, Stray Kids, Twice, Zerobaseone and TXT.

The prestigious annual MAMA awards are held in the heart of Tokyo Japan at the Tokyo Dome Stadium in Bunkyo.

First day commenced with electrifying performances from Kep1er, TXT, and Somi on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Twice emerged as the the only girl group to have bagged this award in 2023, eventually becoming the first girl group to win the award five times.

The BTS army rallied to social media and flooded X, formerly Twitter with their heartiest congratulations.

One fan commented,” jungkook’s acceptance speech video for bts’ worldwide icon of the year daesang award at the 2023 mama awards ! [emojis]”

A second fan chimed in, “Congratulations babies [purple hearts] more wins to us.”

“The Crowd [crying emoji] oh BTS you will always be famous,” a fan noted.

At present, all the BTS members are on a hiatus due to their mandatory military enlistment and the band is understood to reunite in 2025.
