Jada Pinkett Smith says she'll 'never get a divorce' from Will Smith

Jada Pinkett left the world in shock with her bombshell revelation that she and her husband Will Smith have been quietly separated for the last seven years.

Jada, 52, was on the Today show to discuss her memoir, Worthy, releasing soon this month.

During an interview with the NBC show, the actress broke the news, citing the reason for separation as “exhaustion with trying,” while remaining vague on what caused it to be “fractured” like this.

“... That's a lot of things, and I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.”

When Kotb suggested it was not a “divorce on paper," Jada nodded her head in affirmation.

However, the Set It Off actress has made a promise that there will never be a reason for them to get a divorce.

Jada, who continued to fake her marriage with Will, 55, until today, continued: “I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be. I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce.”

She explained, "We will work through ... whatever," adding, "I just haven’t been able to break that promise."

Speaking with PEOPLE for her October cover story, Jada further detailed the state of her marriage to Will, noting, “We’re still figuring it out.”

“We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together,” she continued, “We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
