Mattel has unveiled a new addition to the Barbie dolls collection based on Kate McKinnon’s Weird Barbie.
The official launch of Weird Barbie will take place around the first half of 2024, giving fans ample time to pre-order the plastic doll for $50.
Much like her character in the film, Weird Barbie doll is dressed in a whimsical patterned pink dress, smudged makeup, and awfully cut hair.
Weird Barbie first appeared in 2023’s Barbie film, played by McKinnon, who lives away from the dreamy Barbieland due to her anomalous appearance and eccentric behavior.
In the film, the doll achieved a spot after the player of her Barbie in the real world subjected her to such mistreatment.
Other Barbies (and Kens) are not afraid to call her weird on her face, a notion she has grown accustomed to and no longer feels bad about. In fact, she plays a very prominent role in the film.
When Margot Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie finds herself in the midst of an existential crisis, Weird Barbie offers an explanation for her turmoil, prompting her to explore the real world and its very grey circumstances.
Moreover, she also helps out other Barbies who are brain-washed by the coterie of Ken to serve them in their ‘Mojo Dojo Casa House.’
Since its release on July 21, the Greta Gerwig directorial is on its way to earning a staggering $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making Gerwig the first-ever female director to achieve this feat.
