Zac Efron, who starred in the High School Musical franchise, has just hit the follow button on his ex-girlfriend and co-star Vanessa Hudgens' Instagram page, sending the internet into a frenzy.
On Monday, April 17, fans on social media spotted Efron hitting the 'follow' button on Hudgens' profile.
However, Vanessa hasn't followed him back yet. One user (@PopCulture2000s) posted a screenshot of Zac's following tab, exclaiming "OMG POP CULTURE EMERGENCY!! WHAT'S GOING ON??"
According to ET, Hudgens has not commented on the news or followed Efron back on Instagram.
The couple, who famously dated during the filming of the High School Musical movies, split up over a decade ago, but followers have never stopped hoping for a reconciliation.
While the specifics of their breakup were not widely publicized, the actress revealed to Shape in 2011 that the distance between them was a significant factor in the split.
"Long-distance relationships are challenging no matter what," she told the magazine, as reported by People.
"When you can't spend time together in person, it's just not the same. Having an iPhone helped, but it wasn't enough."
Both have dated other people since their split. Zac was in a relationship with Halston Sage and another Vanessa (Valladares), while she dated Austin Butler for almost a decade and is currently engaged to Cole Tucker.
