Alicia Silverstone gets candid about her relationship with 'clueless' stardom

Alicia Silverstone is talking openly about her struggles with her "complicated" career and life after Clueless.

From her Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, where she sported Cher's iconic yellow-and-black checked blazer and skirt, to her encounter with co-star Stacey Dash, which featured the two reenacting a memorable scene from their cherished teen comedy, Silverstone's breakout character Cher Horowitz has made a comeback in recent weeks.

Following the 1995 release of Clueless, the star is now discussing her experience with stardom, which reached unprecedented heights.

"When Clueless came out, it really shifted," she told The Hollywood Reporter in a conversation published on Saturday. "I had been the girl from Crush, then I was the Aerosmith chick, and then, after that, I was Cher."

She added, "It was very complicated and I don't think I knew how to manage it: I didn't have the foundation, the good tools to deal with it, I wasn't prepared for it in any way, shape or form. I really had no idea what was happening, and it didn't feel comfortable."

Glancing back on her life and incidents over the years, Silverstone said she's "doing life right."

"It's isn't easy, being an activist, a mother and an actress all at the same time. But I'm doing my best," she told the outlet. "I continue to do speaking engagements about health and our earth, all of that is really meaningful to me. The most important thing to me is being fully present with my son. As for acting, I'll keep finding a way to dabble, to stay in there."

To reprise her role as the star-making Clueless in Amy Heckerling's classic 1995 comedy, Alicia Silverstone slipped into a yellow tartan skirt. But it turns out that Silverstone is just as adorably clueless as Cher Horowitz when it comes to the big game.

"I don’t know if I’ve ever watched the Super Bowl in my life," the actress told THR by phone from Amsterdam, where she’s shooting a movie. "If I didn’t have this commercial for Rakuten, I wouldn’t know when the Super Bowl was."
