Ryan Grantham, ex-Riverdale actor murdered mother, got sentenced

Ryan Grantham gets served.

Ryan Grantham, a former "Riverdale" actor, was found guilty of killing his mother and conspiring to assassinate Justin Trudeau. He was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for the first 14 years.

More than six months after entering a guilty plea to a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Barbara Waite, 64, whom he shot in the back of the head while she played the piano in March 2020, Grantham, 24, was informed of his fate at British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver on Wednesday.

At a hearing in June, the prosecution claimed that after he fatally shot his mother on March 31, 2020, at the family's home in Squamish, British Columbia, he used a GoPro camera to film a confessional video in which he also displayed Waite's dead body.

“I shot her in the back of the head. In the moments after, she would have known it was me,” Grantham said in the recording.

According to the actor's police testimony, after purchasing alcohol and marijuana, he tried creating Molotov cocktails, watched Netflix, covered his mother's body with a sheet, and went to bed.

The next day, according to Grantham, he loaded his car with three firearms, ammo, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping equipment, and directions to Rideau Cottage, where Trudeau lives in Ottawa, before hanging a rosary on his mother's piano and placing lighted candles around her body.

Later, Grantham revealed his plot to assassinate the prime minister to police, and he also detailed it in his journal.

He spent a few hours driving to Justin Trudeau's house before turning around and planning a large-scale shooting at Simon Fraser University or on the Lions Gate Bridge, where he was a student.

Grantham drove to the Vancouver Police Department instead, gave himself in, and admitted to killing his mother to the policeman.

Ker said that Grantham showed genuine contrition. He expressed regret for his conduct in June, claiming that his mother did not deserve what he had done to her.

For his role as Jeffrey Augustine on the CW drama "Riverdale," Grantham is most known. His additional acting credits include "Supernatural," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," among others.
