TikTok star Zoe Laverne is at the centre of controversy once more after she recently shared a video of piercing her six-month-old baby’s ears.
While there is a lot of cultural significance of piercing a baby’s ears, many critics deem the practice as abusive which this time the social media star was a target of.
In the video Laverne and her husband Dawson Day could be seen getting their baby’s ears pierced at a local mall and in the video the little one could be seen crying hysterically.
Explaining why her baby is crying, she explained that her child was "crying like that [because] she’s teething."
However, this reason was not enough as angry users came for her in the comments.
"Zoe Laverne getting her daughter’s ears pierced and…I'm cringing. First, I know this is something people do culturally, but please, go to a professional. Piercing guns are not safe."
In response to the hate she took to Instagram in a series of stories addressing the problem, "Please do not compare child abuse to getting your ears pierced."
She added that "piercing places wouldn’t allow children or babies ears pierced if it was abuse. You are allowed to get a baby’s ears pierced at 2 months old."
She even drew in her own experience as Zoe said, "I got mine pierced at 6 months old as well. A lot of you are making it too deep."
