Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh are trading jokes and espionage in the first trailer for Mayday, Apple TV+'s upcoming action-comedy set at the height of the Cold War.

The film is scheduled to premiere globally on Sept. 4.

Reynolds stars as U.S. Navy pilot Lt. Troy "Assassin" Kelly, whose top-secret mission over Soviet territory goes disastrously wrong, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines.

Just when all hope seems lost, he's rescued by Nikolai Ustinov, a gruff former KGB agent played by Branagh, who unexpectedly has a deep admiration for American culture.

According to People, the pair soon form an unlikely friendship as they attempt to escape Soviet Russia together, with the film blending high-stakes action, comedy and classic buddy-movie chemistry.

Apple describes Mayday as a "genre-bending" adventure that puts a fresh spin on the traditional spy thriller.

The film is written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the filmmaking duo behind Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Furthermore, the supporting cast includes Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński and David Morse.

Mayday marks Reynolds' first major film role since Deadpool & Wolverine, while Branagh continues a busy year following several high-profile projects.

The action-comedy will stream exclusively on Apple TV+ beginning Sept. 4.
