Christopher Nolan, who is known for making big-budget blockbuster movies, candidly discusses Hollywood fears over artificial intelligence in his recent interview.
The iconic director is currently busy promoting his upcoming movie, The Odyssey – an adaptation of the Greek epic poem, set to release in theatres this week on July 17.
Given the new movie uses amazing special effects, Nolan believes that he’s not scared of the “spread of AI” technology compared to other people in the industry who “disdain” this new innovation.
During his movie promotion in Paris, the Dark Knight director shares his honest thoughts about AI in his latest conversation with AFP.
Nolan notes that AI has been successfully “adopted by Wall Street” and other investors as well as tech companies, although people in the creative industry have completely rejected this technology.
The Oppenheimer director explains that the young people also oppose the idea of AI, and they even coin this term, “AI slop”.
“There’s a sort of disdain for things AI,” he tells the outlet.
According to The Guardian, AI slop refers to the “flood of AI-generated text, video and audio content that has inundated social media” in last few years.
Noting that the AI technology faces resistance in the creative industries including music, cinema and art, Nolan would likely to see the technology in some “useful imaging tools”.
The iconic moviemaker adds that the “idea AI could replace human beings wholesale and human creativity,” is utter “nonsense”.
Earlier, Nolan addresses criticism over casting black actress Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy in the highly anticipated movie.
“These conversations that happen before people see the movie, are always irrelevant because no one having them knows what the movie actually is yet,” says the director during his interview with the UK’s Telegraph.
