Sara Paxton is taking on one of her most chilling roles yet in Lifetime's upcoming thriller Killer Clown, with the newly released trailer offering a glimpse into the terrifying story inspired by real-life events.

Paxton stars as Elizabeth Helmer, a woman still haunted by the unsolved murder of her mother, who was killed by a clown decades earlier.

Just as she begins to rebuild her life, Elizabeth becomes the target of a mysterious figure dressed as a clown, forcing her to confront the trauma she has spent years trying to escape.

The trailer teases a suspense-filled mystery as Elizabeth struggles to determine whether the new threat is connected to her mother's killer or the work of a copycat.

According to People, as disturbing secrets from the past resurface, she finds herself caught in a web of betrayal while racing to uncover the truth before becoming the next victim.

Killer Clown is directed by Annie Bradley and is part of Lifetime's summer slate of original thrillers.

The film also stars Francesca Eastwood, Torrance Coombs and Alex Hook, blending psychological suspense with slasher-style horror.

Speaking about the project, the filmmakers describe the story as being inspired by real accounts of people whose fear of clowns stems from traumatic experiences, while exploring how unresolved grief and childhood trauma can shape a person's life.

Killer Clown premieres on Lifetime on Aug. 1, adding another suspense-driven title to the network's lineup of original movies.
