Former chart-topping rapper Mystikal has been ordered to spend the next two decades behind bars after a Louisiana judge sentenced him for raping a woman at his home.
The musician, born Michael Tyler, had originally been accused of a series of serious offences after his arrest in 2022.
Prosecutors alleged the woman was attacked during a violent encounter at the rapper's property.
Earlier this year, however, the case took a different turn when Mystikal admitted guilt to a reduced rape charge as part of a plea agreement.
At the sentencing hearing, the victim gave a powerful statement describing the lasting impact the incident had on her life.
She recalled being assaulted and left traumatised by the ordeal, while family members watched from the courtroom.
The Grammy-nominated rapper also addressed the court, acknowledging the severity of the accusations and accepting the punishment handed down by the judge.
In a last-ditch effort to avoid sentencing, Here I Go singer recently tried to reverse his guilty plea, claiming he felt pressured and had not fully weighed the consequences of his decision.
The court rejected the request and moved forward with sentencing.
The prison term marks another major legal setback for The Man Right Chea hitmaker, whose career has repeatedly been overshadowed by court battles and criminal cases.
While some previous allegations against him were dropped, he has served prison time in the past for separate offences.
Once known for his energetic hits and high-profile collaborations, Mystikal now faces a lengthy spell behind bars.
