Tom Holland has opened up about why he has repeatedly turned down offers to host Saturday Night Live.
During his latest media appearance, the British actor cited his dyslexia and how it impacts live performance reading.
Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast on Tuesday, June 2, the Marvel star explained that the live format has always been a major source of hesitation for him.
He said, “I'm heavily dyslexic, which is one of the reasons why — and I'd love to talk to you today about it, actually, — is why I've never done SNL,” pointing to the show’s fast paced script changes and cue cards.
“I’m just so petrified at the concept of, like, trying to read something and they change,” he continued, adding, “It's just that, like, for me, I can read fine. But when I have to read out loud, it just becomes, like, a kind… It's, like, a mental block. And I can freeze.”
Moreover, he added that read through days on set are often his toughest.
“I will really try and highlight everything and learn my lines ahead of time. So that I'm more kind of skimming it than I am reading,” he noted.
Despite multiple invitations, he told the host, “I've been really lucky that they've asked me a few times to do it… It's just that thing of the cue cards.”
