Jamie Lee Curtis has shared the touching memory helping her cope with the devastating loss of her beloved sister, Kelly Lee Curtis.

The 67-year-old Hollywood star announced over the weekend that Kelly had passed away peacefully at the age of 69.

Describing her as her “best friend” and confidante, Jamie has now opened up about a special trip the sisters took together that is bringing her comfort during her darkest days.

Posting a series of photographs on social media, the Oscar-winning actress looked back on a 2012 journey she and Kelly made to explore their family history.

The sisters travelled to Hungary, where their father Tony Curtis’ family originated, before heading to Denmark and the island of Bornholm to learn more about the roots of their mother, Janet Leigh.

Freaky Friday star said the adventure became far more meaningful than simply a holiday, revealing it now serves as a treasured source of comfort as she mourns her sibling.

She encouraged others to make similar memories with their brothers and sisters, writing that a trip spent tracing family history can become “a lasting and permanent and important memory”.

Among the photos were images of the pair visiting Budapest’s famous Dohány Street Synagogue, a place that held particular significance for Kelly.

True Lies actress explained that her sister had helped raise funds for the restoration of the historic building in the 1990s alongside their father and members of the Hungarian Jewish community.

She also recalled being deeply moved by memorial plaques honouring the Curtis and Schwartz families, displayed near the synagogue’s poignant Tree of Life memorial dedicated to Holocaust victims.

Kelly, who followed her famous family into acting with roles in films including Magic Sticks and The Devil’s Daughter, was married to filmmaker John Marsh at the time of her death.
