Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have proved their on-screen magic in the smash-hit Wicked and off-screen, their bond is just as strong, with the pair still texting each other almost every day.
Despite endless fan speculation about whether their friendship was “real” or just for the cameras, the 39-year-old actress has firmly shut it down, insisting their connection is the genuine article.
Speaking to Variety, the London-born star made it crystal clear she doesn’t do fake friendships.
She said people often misread her personality, adding that when she calls someone a friend, she truly means it, no half measures, no Hollywood pretence.
Cynthia also admitted she finds it fascinating watching fans and online commentators dissect their relationship from afar.
The songstress joked that there are “armchair psychologists” everywhere trying to analyse what was going on between them during filming, when in reality, things were far simpler, two co-stars who genuinely got on.
The pair’s close relationship actually began before cameras even rolled.
The Harriet actress previously revealed that she and Ariana made a pact at the start of production to look after each other throughout the demanding shoot.
They promised to protect one another from the pressures of fame, the workload, and any behind-the-scenes drama.
That pact, it seems, stuck as Stand Up singer says their partnership was built on trust, honesty and a shared commitment to keeping things grounded while working on a huge global production.
She described their bond as a “strong synergy”, saying they constantly supported each other both emotionally and professionally on set.
And while the world continues to talk, Cynthia and Ariana are clearly busy doing what they do best and that is staying close, real, and still texting like the best of friends.
