Jake Shane is taking the internet’s latest roasting in stride after a clip from his podcast interview with country superstar Kacey Musgraves sparked a social media frenzy.
The 26-year-old influencer found himself at the centre of online jokes after chatting with the Grammy-winning singer on his Therapuss podcast, which dropped on Netflix earlier this month.
During the interview, Shane asked Musgraves about a lyric from her fan-favourite track Slow Burn, and viewers were left stunned by the exchange.
After the 37-year-old singer described the 2018 song as one of the pieces of work she’s most proud of, Shane brought up a lyric he loved: “In Tennessee, the sun’s goin’ down / But in Beijing, they’re headin’ out to work.”
But instead of simply admiring the line, the comedian asked the singer what it actually meant, admitting he and his colleague “debate it every single day”.
A visibly surprised Musgraves quickly explained the lyric was quite literal, pointing out that while the sun is setting in Tennessee, people in Beijing are starting their day because of the time difference.
Almost instantly, the awkward moment exploded across TikTok and X, with viewers joking that Shane had just discovered time zones.
One user quipped, “Why did this need to be explained??” while another laughed, “Time zones baby. They’re real.”
Despite becoming the butt of the joke, he appears unbothered by the viral backlash.
Over the weekend, he reposted memes and headlines mocking the moment on his Instagram Stories, joking: “Like I’m ready to laugh. We can laugh.”
The influencer also shared screenshots of Google headlines calling his question “nonsense”, clearly amused by just how far the internet had taken the moment.
