Miley has recently revealed how her father Billy Cyrus played a key role in protecting her from the dark side of childhood fame.
The Flowers singer admits she’s fortunate to have her dad by her side on the set of her hit Disney show, Hannah Montana.
“My dad was on set every single day,” says the 33-year-old in an exclusive interview with Variety.
Therefore, the Last Song star points out, “There was nothing that could happen that he wouldn't know about.”
Looking back, Miley began her career at the age of 13 and soon, she rose to fame with her Hannah Montana character.
However, the singer realised that her father Billy’s presence on a set gave her a sense of safety that not every child actor could afford.
Miley mentioned that while filming the children’s sitcom, her dressing room was connected to her father, saying, “There was never a time where I was going to be alone in that dressing room.”
In the past, several former child stars talked about their own struggles in the entertainment industry. The hit producer Dan Schneider’s tenure at Nickelodeon in the 1990s-2010s saw toxic work environment and abuse at the network.
Meanwhile, Miley adds that her parents didn’t need her to be “famous, to survive or to be stable”, they just want her to follow her dream.
“What happens to a lot of these kids is their parents want it more than they do, or the kids become responsible for the entire income of the family. That was never my job,” concludes the singer-songwriter.
