Hollywood comedian Andy Dick has revealed the terrifying aftermath of his near-fatal overdose.
The 60-year-old star described a brush with death that left him “purple, not breathing” and with serious brain damage.
Andy, best known for Road Trip and a long career of comedy antics, recounted the incident on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast.
He said he only remembers “waking up in the ambulance” after being found slumped outside a 7-Eleven in December, when friends rushed to administer Narcan, the opioid overdose reversal drug.
Doctors later scanned Andy’s head and, to his shock, discovered “about five to seven holes” in his brain, which have impacted his memory.
While Howie Mandel suggested the term “lesions” might be more accurate, Employee of the Month star insisted: “That’s not the word I remember they used.”
Eyewitness Shawn Harrell told PEOPLE at the time: “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. It was blue. I thought he passed away.”
Since the terrifying episode, Andy has entered rehab and is now living in a sober community, where he abstains from all substances except coffee.
Reflecting on his past, Hoodwinked! star admitted his addiction was partly fueled by boredom and a love of “fun” and “a little bit of danger.”
But he is determined to stay clean for the sake of his family, which includes adult children Lucas, Meg, Jacob, and a grandchild on the way.
