Why Gaten Matarazzo brought his real-life condition to 'Stranger Things'?

Gaten Matarazzo is turning his personal medical condition to a cause of social awareness.

The 23-year-old Never Ending Story crooner, has candidly shared about his lifestyle condition, cleidocranial dysplasia (CDC).

For the unversed, it is a genetic disorder impacting bone growth and the development of teeth.

The young actor and cast member of Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things voiced his experience with the disease, according to him, he has a mild case he was not exposed to bullying.

Instead of looking at it as a failure, the actor attributes the state of affairs to the development of his career in Hollywood.

“It has benefited me in many ways because it’s basically started my acting career. It’s given me an opportunity to talk about it and not feel ashamed of it", he said.

Nevertheless, Prank Encounters host is conscious of the fact that not all people with CDC have a similar experience.

“Thankfully my case is very mild and I can live like a normal kid but not everyone that has the condition can, and that’s why I’m talking about it, because many people are not as fortunate as I am,” he explained.

Moreover, Best Actor awarded artist has joined the makers of Stranger Things to incorporate the condition into the plot.

Notably, his on-screen portrayal of Dustin Henderson, further normalized the discussion of physical differences.

In the future, the artist wants to expand his horizons to positions other than those that are based on appearances and to make everyone realise that he is so much more talented than a diagnosis.
