Eric Dane’s family saddened the word after confirming that the Grey’s Anatomy star’s has passed at 53 via a statement.
The Charmed actor breathed his last on February 19, 10 months after he went public with his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
In a statement to media outlets, his family stated “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” adding that the Euphoria actor spent his last days surrounded by friends, family and loved ones.
"Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always,” the note continued.
Eric’s loved ones acknowledged his place in fan’s heats and the love and support he’d receive from them but also asked for privacy as they navigate the challenging time.
The late actor’s most prominent and beloved role was Dr Mark “McSteamy” Sloan from Grey’s Anatomy, among other notable acting credits.
Notably, tributes from fellow Hollywood industry stars such as Ashton Kutcher, Nina Dobrev, Robert Patrick, Maria Shriver and Sam Levinson, have already started pouring in in remembrance of Eric.
ALS is a disorder of the nervous system that affects the nerve cells in brain and the spinal cord. The rare condition worsens over time and patients lose control of their muscles.
