Jesy Nelson, the former Little Mix star has updated the story of her 8-month-old twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe.

For the unversed, the twins of the star are battling with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.

During her recent appearance on the second episode of the Great Company podcast on February 4, Nelson explained her twins condition.

The 34-year-old said that the disorder is a muscle wasting disease caused by a missing gene.

In absence of early treatment, the disease will normally lead to death before the age of two since "their muscles are deteriorating and wasting away."

The English crooner gave birth to the duo on May 15, 2025, who were at the time prematurely born after a complicated pregnancy (Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, or TTTS).

Nelson has been very strong, although she is informed that the girls cannot walk or have strength in their necks, she says, “I really believe that they are going to defy all the odds.”

As the singer now campaigns to have SMA introduced into the screening of the newborn pricked at the heel of the baby in the UK, she says that then time is of the essence to save lives.

While reflecting about the diagnosis that she was given in the neonatal unit, she marked, “I just have to accept it, and now I just try and make the best out of this situation.”

This experience is going to be discussed further in her next documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix that will be released on February 13.
