Dolly Parton faces brother's death one year after husband's demise

Country music icon Dolly Parton is grieving the loss of her brother Coy "Denver" Parton who has died at the age of 82.

According to an obituary published by Atchley Funeral Home Coy passed away in Sevierville, Tennessee on Thursday. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

Unlike his famous sister Coy lived a private life away from the spotlight. He worked as a crane operator, homestead farmer and avid hunter.

Coy was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Parton as well as his brothers Larry, David, Randy, and Floyd Parton. He is survived by Dolly and their siblings Willadeene Buzzeo, Robert Parton Jr., Stella Parton, Cassie Griffith, Freida Parton, and Rachel George along with his daughters Chris and Jennifer.

The loss comes more than a year after Dolly's husband Carl Dean died at 82 in March 2025.

Following his passing the Grammy-winning singer reflected on their more than six decades together saying, "Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years."

She later revealed Dean had quietly battled health issues before his death admitting that while she found comfort knowing he was no longer suffering coping with the loss remained difficult.

"But that still doesn't make up for the loss and the loneliness of it," she said in a previous interview.

After Dean's death Dolly also stepped back from music for a period explaining that grief made it difficult for her to return to work.
