Ben Affleck is dishing his take on Artificial Intelligence in creative spaces, and it is quite different from a number of people in Hollywood.
The Good Will Hunting actor appeared to be well-versed in the topic, and disclosed that films don’t face any real threats from the technology despite their fears.
In a recent episode on The Joe Rogan Experience, the actor started off by noting that ChatGPT, Gemini or other accessible generative artificial intelligence chatbots write terribly and are unreliable.
"I actually don't think it's very likely that it can — it's going to be able to write anything meaningful or and, in particular, that it's going to be making movies from whole cloth like Tilly Norwood, like that's bulls***. I don't think that's going to happen," Ben stated.
The filmmaker expressed optimism about the regulation of AI, saying that one’s likeness can’t be sold and individuals can hold others accountable in the court of law for that, adding that unions will also likely step in for more regulation.
"It kind of feels to me like … there's a lot more fear because we have the sense of this existential dread. 'It's going to wipe everything out.' But that actually runs counter, in my view, to what history seems to show, which is adoption is slow. It's incremental," the 53-year-old said.
The two-time Academy Award winner added that Artificial Intelligence should be used as a tool, and also to save time and money in filmmaking.
