American singer Chappell Roan has clarified her stance on Brigitte Bardot after paying her tribute following her death.
Chappell wrote on Instagram “Rest in peace Ms. Bardot. She was my inspiration for red wine supernova”, which received heavy backlash.
The backlash prompted Chappell to share a clarification of her stance on politics.
“Holy s*** I did not know all that insane s*** Ms. Bardot stood for. Obvs I do not condone this.”, she later said.
She added “Very disappointing to learn”.
One of Chappell’s songs, Red Wine Supernova, is also inspired by the late actress in which she sings “She was a playboy, Brigitte Bardot / She showed me things I didn’t know.”
The French actress passed away on December 28 at the age of 91.
Brigitte’s reputation was marred with controversies after she retired from acting at the age of 43.
In 1992, she married politician Bernard d'Ormale, who was convicted multiple times for racism and inciting racial hatred.
The actress herself was fined 30,000 francs by a French court in 2000 for inciting racial hatred in 1999 book Le Carre de Pluton.
