Russ is taking Timothee Chalamet’s side after the Academy Award nominee has been bashed on social media for his self-assured remarks.
The 3:15 (Breathe) singer took to X to put out a lengthy statement to defend the Little Women actor and his recent Marty Supreme interview in which he calls his acting performances “some top-level shit.”
In the caption, the singer wrote, “Creative fields are the only places where people expect elite performers to pretend they don’t know they’re elite. Great athletes can feel like they’re the best and it’s all good.”
“But society wants top of their field creatives to do the whole “idk I’m ok I guess (shrug emoji) probably just got lucky” brand posturing. It’s fake modesty so that people like you more.” Russ added.
The Losin Control singer went on to add that all creatives are secretly aware that they are great because they have to, because conviction is what fuels them.
Notably Russ emphasised that the audience’s discomfort at Timothee’s boldness is a reflection of their own relationship to ambition than his claims themselves.
Timothee said that he has delivered top of the line performances for the past six to seven years, adding that he doesn’t want people to take his work for granted and he doesn’t want to do it either.
