George Clooney reveals exclusive advice from THIS Hollywood legend

George Clooney received some advice from Hollywood legend Paul Newman, even when he didn’t know who Clooney was.

Recently, speaking in a New York Times interview, Clooney revealed to Jay Kelly, co-star Adam Sandler, that Newman once advised him on how to handle life when you have everyone’s eyes on you.

“I’m not as good at getting out as you are,” Clooney said to Sandler. “I have a tendency to go, ‘If I go out, that’s going to be an extra hour of talking to people.’ Paul Newman actually talked about this to me.”

Recalling his first meeting with Newman, Clooney said they were at Warner Bros. while filming Message in a Bottle, and he was on ER, as Newman sat outside smoking a cigarette.

“So I pulled up in the golf cart and was like, ‘Hey, just wanted to say hi,’” Clooney remembered, adding that Newman had no idea who he was, but he eventually realised that Clooney was also an actor.

“Everybody who came by on golf carts was like, ‘Hey, George.’ ‘George!’” Clooney reflected. “So bit by bit, he figured out I was successful in the industry in some way.”

Then Newman said, “George, don’t let them keep you at home,” Clooney remembered. Newman was referring specifically to that urge to isolate oneself to hold onto some privacy.

“My tendency at that moment was to stay in, and hearing Newman say that, it made sense immediately,” Clooney claimed.
