The Screen Actors Guild Awards have announced that they will be re-naming the ceremony, and it seems that internet users are not fond of it.
In an official statement on social media, the guild revealed that the show will be called “The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA.”
As per SAG-AFTRA, the reason for the rebranding is so that the statue that the actors win aligns with the name of the show.
The trophy handed out to the winners has been called the “Actor” ever since the prestigious ceremony launched in 1995.
Although the idea was a long time in the making, the move was escalated by the show choosing to air on Netflix next year for worldwide streaming.
The organization also added, “Now, with the new name of the show – The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA – we’re finally able to fully recognize that merger and align it with the name of our statuette, The Actor.”
However, internet users took to X(formerly Twitter) to write, “Might be the worst rebranding since ‘X,’” and “thanks i hate it.”
“That's a chop name tbh, less prestigious imo,” a third netizen wrote as a fourth added, “I hate this so much omg. The SAG awards is so prestigious. So to name it the actor awards is crazy. It cheapens SAG-AFTRA,” while others also called it cheap.
The Screen Actors Guild Award is one of the major awards events in the Hollywood film industry, alongside the Golden Globes.
