Actor Jesse Eisenberg has revealed he will donate one of his kidneys to a stranger only to perform an act of kindness.

A Real Pain star, 42, shared the news during an appearance on the TODAY show, saying he will undergo the surgery in six weeks.

“I’m actually donating my kidney in six weeks. I really am,” he said.

Upon asking his reason behind the act, he was found unsure of his thought behind this life-altering decision.

“I don’t know why. I got bitten by the blood donation bug. I’m doing an altruistic donation mid-December. I’m so excited to do it.”

An altruistic kidney donation means donating the organ to someone with an undisclosed identity and having no connection with them for the sake of helping humanity.

Eisenberg hoped to start a chain reaction of donations to help multiple patients with this selfless act.

“Let’s say someone in Kansas City needs a kidney, and I’m a match. My kidney helps them — and their donor can help someone else. It only works if there’s an altruistic donor,” he explained.

Eisenberg encouraged the public to promote and consider organ donation, calling it “essentially risk-free and so needed.”

As of now, more than 90,000 people in the United States are on the waiting list to receive a kidney transplant, according to the report of the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Eisenberg, The Social Network's famed actor, has been actively donating blood in the past, and now his latest act of generosity has earned him praise.
