Drew Barrymore talks about rehab during her teen years

Drew Barrymore talked about her view on rehabilitation in her teenage years.

On the Friday, October 24 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, hosted Mae Martin, who is known for his recent Netflix series, Wayward released on September 25, 2025

The fictional series is on a boarding school for "troubled" teens called Tall Pines Academy.

Plotting a police detective and two teenage girls as they uncover the abuse, manipulation, and cult-like practices hidden beneath the school's therapeutic facade.

Barrymore stated how the troubled teen industry is like and added, "I also was someone who got taken away and put in a place for two years.”

Martin replied in a startled tone, "I did not know that. I mean, I knew that you were a wayward teen, as was I. I was in rehab and stuff, but I didn't know that you were at one of those places.”

Santa Clarita Diet Actress elaborated that she had a lot of “lightness” in her experience in the institution.

The 50-year-old compared her journey with respect to the show adding, “I know that sounds wild, but it was like encouragement to say your truth, to be brave, to find humor and heroism in your journey. And it's the best thing that ever happened to me, honestly.”

Barrymore claimed, “And I hold a lot of that sacrosanct. But it wasn't easy. It was hard as hell,”.

During a 2015 interview, the Flower Films founder had already revealed that she got 18 months of rehabilitation for drug and alcohol addiction.
