Royal Family will never use Duke of York title again after Prince Andrew scandal

The Royal Family is reportedly set to retire the Duke of York title for good following the ongoing fallout from Prince Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express that it is now “highly unlikely” the title will ever be used again, even after Prince Andrew’s lifetime.

“The title is in abeyance and it is highly unlikely there will be a future Duke of York,” he said, adding that it has become “too tainted” by scandal.

While Andrew, 65, will retain his princely title as a birthright, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will reportedly also step back from using Duchess of York publicly. The title, once considered prestigious, has now become synonymous with controversy.

Fitzwilliams also suggested other titles may be quietly avoided in the future, including Duke of Clarence due to past royal scandals, and possibly Duke of Sussex, in reference to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s estrangement from royal duties.
