Jimmy Kimmel got emotional during his return to the stage on Jimmy Kimmel Live! just six days after the ABC network suspended his show.
On September 23, the 57-year-old host marked his comeback to the late-night show with an apology to Charli Kirk’s family and the viewers.
During his opening monologue, Kimmel shed a few tears after he said, “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” as his comment regarding Kirk’s passing was criticised by some citizens.
He added, “Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! first guest star on the revival episode was Glen Powell, who received an apology from the comedian for getting him into this mess.
The Hit Man lead showed his support for Kimmel by saying, “I'm honoured. I'm just so happy you're back.”
Notably, last week, ABC pulled the Emmy-winning show off the air after he made comments about Kirk’s assassin being a MAGA supporter.
The cancellation caused an uproar among celebrities who boycotted Disney+ and Hulu, including Noah Centineo, Cynthia Nixon, and Marisa Tomei, among others.
As of now, President Donald Trump has expressed his disagreement with bringing the late-night show back.
Yes, Donald Trump threatened the ABC network, which airs Jimmy Kimmel Live!, with a bigger lawsuit than the last, which required the network to pay $16 million.
