Country music is off the radar for Doja Cat, as she is focused on creating pop albums.
On Sept. 21, during her appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, the Grammy-winning rapper addressed exploring beyond her genre.
It started when the host, Michelle Miller, asked Doja, “What is it about your generation?”—referring to the rapid shifts in trends over 30 years that artists are still adopting.
"I think that coming out of the '90s, there was a hope for the future and artists were doing everything and playing a lot with irony," Doja stated.
"It's just gotten more and more ironic over the years, like rappers wearing skirts... rappers wearing skirts is a big one, and dresses — like that was being in touch with their feminine side,” the musician added.
Doja further noted the irony that had "catapulted" her generation and future generations into "not following a path that is expected for them."
Later in the interview, when the host asked Doja which genre doesn’t reflect her among pop, rap, jazz, and R&B, the singer said country music is not her type.
“I think I am a rapper that makes pop music,” said Doja, whose real name is Amala Dlamini.
