James McAvoy was reportedly attacked in a bar at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
As per People, the 46-year-old actor was at the venue after the premiere of his directorial debut film, California Schemin'.
According to a source close to McAvoy, the aggressor was drunk while he was being escorted out of the bar, and he saw the star’s back and punched him.
The X-Men lead was fine after the attack and laughed it off at the bar. He was trying to calm down the person when the assault took place.
Notably, McAvoy’s rare appearance at the festival was due to his musical biography starring Samuel Bottomley.
California Schemin' is a real-life inspired autobiographical film based on Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, two aspiring rappers from Dundee, Scotland.
Previously in conversation with Variety, the Glass actor praised the musicians, referring to them as ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘folk heroes.’
He stopped appearing in films after 2024 to work on this passion project and will reportedly be back in a live-action adaptation of Lord Hidetora alongside Henry Cavill. The film is set for a 2026 release.
On the personal front, McAvoy was seen on the red carpet with his wife, Lisa Liberati, whom he married in 2022. He has two sons, Brendon, born to his first wife, Anne-Marie Duff, and a second son born to Lisa.
James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff got divorced after ten years of marriage due to marital incompatibility in 2016. Though they didn’t give further details, the duo co-parents Brendon, who was born in 2010.
