Multi-platinum rapper, singer, and songwriter Nicki Minaj, who has been nominated for Grammys, revealed that she turned down an offer to join The Recording Academy.
It’s the professional organisation that oversees the Grammy Awards.
Live on StationHead, Minaj disclosed that she was invited to join the board of the Grammys.
The Say So singer said that while the offer was a “very kind gesture,” she declined due to personal reasons.
“At one point, the Grammys asked me to be on the board. I appreciated it,” Minaj said. “It was a very, very, very kind gesture, but my integrity couldn’t allow me to accept it. This was before the release of Pink Friday 2.”
Although Minaj became the first solo female rapper in over 20 years to top the Billboard Hot 100 with Super Freaky Girl, she has yet to win a Grammy herself.
That’s why she ultimately declined the offer.
“My integrity couldn’t allow me to sit on the board of something that made absolutely no sense to me — and to anyone who understands,” Minaj said. “So, I said no. I thought it was kind of them to try. But why would I be sitting on the board if I don’t have a Grammy?”
