Anime lovers and Cathcart’s co-stars have been reacting to the news of his demise, paying heartfelt tributes to the beloved Pokémon actor who impacted generations.
James Carter Cathcart, the voice actor for globally acclaimed animated series, Pokémon, died on Tuesday morning at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York City, where he was getting treatment for his throat cancer, at age 71.
His death was announced by fellow voice actor Eric Schroedar, who wrote on Instagram:
“Rest in peace dear sweet man. I will miss you."
On Facebook, musician Leesa Harrington-Squyres wrote, “Oh no. My friend James Carter Cathcart has passed."
The musician added, "He put up a fierce battle with that horrible C word. What an AMAZING musician and voice actor…”
She recalled her early days, saying: “He was one of the first people I got to know when moving up here. My heart goes out to his children and his friends. He will be missed. RIP Carter… you are now with the big band in the sky.”
One user paid tribute while recalling the nostalgic memories of the man behind the voice of James and Meowth.
Another devoted fan posted a collage of J. Carter Cathcart with some of his iconic characters, and wrote on X, “Devasted to hear James Carter Cathcart has passed away.”
Reliving the childhood flashback, he added, “He (J. Carter) played a big part of my childhood, even having been part of the anime since the very beginning and he will be missed.”
Another passionate fan stepped forward to pay heartfelt tribute to James Carter Cathcart with a collage of nostalgic vibes, the user wrote on X, “RIP James Carter Cathcart."
