Prince William may break ancient royal tradition in his coronation

Prince William is being urged to scrap a centuries-old royal tradition when he eventually becomes king, specifically, the use of the iconic Imperial State Crown.

The ornate headpiece, encrusted with over 3,000 jewels and worth an estimated £5 billion, has been branded “ridiculous” and compared to something “out of Disney” by royal insiders.

According to The Sunday Times, William is already considering a coronation that is more relevant to the modern era, shorter, simpler, and more inclusive.

This follows in the footsteps of King Charles, who notably streamlined his own 2023 coronation.

While the Prince of Wales is reportedly sentimental about the crown’s connection to his father and grandmother, insiders argue that it’s time for a more modern image.

“Keep things that reflect diversity and get back to the core of it,” one insider said.

William has already shown a willingness to defy tradition. including ditching court dress at the Order of the Garter in favour of a more relaxed look.

As discussions continue, all eyes are on whether he’ll crown his reign with change, or cling to royal tradition.
