The legendary singer, Usher, played a role in promoting the conversation, and increase the efforts surrounding June ninetheenth, or Juneteenth.
In a social media post, the Yeah! singer noted the importance of the federal holiday and celebrated its cultural impact for the Black community.
The dancer took to his twitter (now X) to write, “June 19th isn't just a date.. it's a testament to resilience, a celebration of freedom delayed but not denied.”
He continued, “This #Juneteenth, let's honor the past, recognize the present, and commit to a future where liberty and justice are truly for all. The fight never stops #Blackindependence.”
The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, after the American Civil War had ended.
Usher, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, also posted an image alongside his caption, in which he could be seen kneeling onstage in a white T-shirt.
The shirt read “July Fourth Junetheenth” written over it, but the Independence Day had been cut with a blue and red line.
The She’s All That actor played a crucial role in helping June 19th become a federal holiday, even being present when the bill for the movement was being signed in 2021.
Yes, Usher is currently touring for his Past Present Future tour which began in August of 2024 and will carry on until December of 2025.
