Former child star Betsy Gay, who was known for starring in the Our Gang films, has passed away at the age of 96.

Having starred in The Little Rascals in the 1930s, her death took place in Bakersfield, California on June 13.

The news was then announced by her friend, Robert Satterfield on Facebook.

In a 2011 interview shared by the Southern Music Research Center, the actress reflected on her start in the entertainment industry, "Those days, there was a lot of kids who worked in movies. One mother told my mother, 'You ought to take Betsy to [the studio], they come there all the time looking for kids to be in Our Gang comedies.' So she took me over there and sure enough, a month later, a man came over... he took us in and we were in Our Gang movies."

Gay continued acting well into her teens, appearing in projects like Quality Street, A Kiss For Cinderella and Heroes Unlimited and the 1943 film What's Buzzin', Cousin? from the Pasadena Playhouse.

She also started her music career through yodeling after being asked to appear on an Andy Clyde short for Columbia Pictures.
