Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs' high-profile lawyers revealed the hand they would be playing during the case’s opening statements on May 12, and a key detail from the witness Cassie Ventura's testimony seems to align with their argument.
The prosecution, infamously dubbed “a six-pack of white women” painted the Bad Boy Records founder as the leader of a “criminal enterprise” which included Diddy as the mastermind, and his “inner circle” who helped cover up alleged crimes such as kidnapping, drugs, arson and sex crimes.
On the flip side, the defendant’s lawyer Teny Geragos argued that “This case is about love, jealousy, and money.”
She went on to note that her team does not deny that Diddy engaged in acts of domestic violence, before adding that it wasn’t equivalent to “sex trafficking.”
The 34-year-old pleaded that the members of the court to keep in mind the charges the I’ll Be Missing You singer was being tried for, notably, five criminal counts of racketeering, prostitution and sex trafficking, and to “ask yourselves” what each alleged victims were “getting from Sean Combs.”
Teny then brought up the mother of the rap mogul’s children, Kim Porter, who died from pneumonia in 2018.
The founding partner of Agnifilo Intrater LLP claimed that Diddy’s relationship with the Mama, I Want To Sing! actress caused “extreme jealousy with Cassie,” the disgraced rapper’s ex-girlfriend.
Cassie, who began her testimony on May 13, admitted in court that she “had some jealousy of Ms. Porter,” a statement which aligns with the claims made by Diddy’s legal team.
Notably, the defense’s case had already classified the 55-year-old’s involvement with multiple partners at a time as his personal choice to indulge in a swinger’s lifestyle.
Yes, according to Cassie’s testimony, Diddy dated both women at the same time, but the former talent direct kept his relationship with the model under wraps.
