Meghan Markle's compliment for Kate Middleton comes to surface amid growing rift

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's relationship has taken a dramatic turn and a resurfaced clip shows just how much has changed.

Back in 2017, during a warm and hopeful BBC interview following her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle had nothing but kind words for her future sister-in-law.

“She’s been wonderful,” Meghan said with a smile, referencing Princess Kate's support in the early stages of her royal journey.

At the time, the now-infamous 'Fab Four', Harry, Meghan, William, and Kate, were the monarchy’s golden team, stepping out together at joint engagements and championing shared causes.

By 2021, Meghan had flipped the narrative in a headline-making Oprah Winfrey interview, where she denied reports she made Kate cry before her wedding and claimed “the reverse happened.”

Meghan said Kate later apologized but the damage was done. The moment, she said, “really stuck out” because it changed the way she was portrayed publicly.

The duchess also claimed palace aides worked overtime to protect Kate’s image but not hers.

“If you love her, you don’t need to hate me. And if you love me, you don’t need to hate her,” Meghan told Oprah, drawing a firm line in the sand.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry detailed even more drama from Kate allegedly believing Meghan was after her fashion contacts, to a dispute over Easter gifts, and even seat-swapping at the royal wedding reception.

Harry claimed the Cambridges refused to follow the “American tradition” of couples sitting together and moved their place cards, ending up at a table where they were the only spouses seated apart.

Kate's role in Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's lives

Kate’s involvement in Archie and Lilibet’s lives remains a mystery.

Back in 2021, following Lilibet’s birth, the Princess of Wales told reporters she still hadn’t met her niece: “I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet. I hope that will be soon.”

However, it’s unclear whether a meeting ever actually happened, as Harry and Meghan relocated to the US in 2020.

Their children’s last known visit to the UK was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
