Meghan Markle just revealed who her children call “auntie” and royal fans are raising eyebrows.
In the latest episode of her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, sat down with longtime friend and celebrity colourist Kadi Lee but it was Meghan’s heartfelt mention of her kids that really got people talking.
Referring to Kadi as “Auntie Kadi”, Meghan sweetly shared how Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, light up whenever their honourary aunt arrives at the family's Montecito mansion.
“I mean, our kids love Auntie Kadi,” Meghan said. “It’s just our favourite when they run out [to greet you]. Your car pulls in and it’s like, 'Kadi!’”
Kadi chimed in with a laugh, saying: “I know, I feel like I look for them first!”
She even referred to herself as “Super Aunt.”
While it was a wholesome moment between friends, it also drew attention for who Meghan didn’t mention, Princess Kate, Archie and Lilibet’s biological aunt.
Despite being married to Prince Harry’s brother, Prince William, Kate has never been publicly referred to as an “auntie” figure by Meghan or Harry.
Meghan has previously called Serena Williams an “auntie” to her kids as well, highlighting the strong female friendships she leans on in place of more traditional family ties.
Kate’s involvement in Archie and Lilibet’s lives remains a mystery.
Back in 2021, following Lilibet’s birth, the Princess of Wales told reporters she still hadn’t met her niece: “I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet. I hope that will be soon.”
However, it’s unclear whether a meeting ever actually happened, as Harry and Meghan relocated to the US in 2020.
Their children’s last known visit to the UK was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
