Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has weighed in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, offering a rare insight into the streaming giant’s stance on the couple’s ongoing partnership.

Following their high-profile exit from royal life, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix, leading to several major projects.

Their joint docuseries, Harry & Meghan, premiered in December 2022, followed by individual projects—Harry’s polo documentary, Polo, and Meghan’s latest venture, With Love, Meghan, which debuted earlier this month.

During an interview with Variety, Sarandos gave his two-word assessment of the couple, describing them as “overly dismissed.”

When asked if Netflix made the right choice betting on Meghan, Sarandos responded: “I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture.”

He pointed to the global impact of the couple’s content, adding: “When we dropped the trailer for the Harry & Meghan doc series [in 2022], everything on-screen was dissected in the press for days. The shoes she was wearing sold out all over the world. The Hermès blanket that was on the chair behind her sold out everywhere in the world.”

Sarandos concluded by emphasizing the public’s continued fascination with the Sussexes, stating: “People are fascinated with Meghan Markle. She and Harry are overly dismissed.”

What's next for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Netflix?

Despite mixed reviews on their recent projects, Netflix remains committed to the couple. The streaming service recently confirmed a second season of With Love, Meghan, though a release date has yet to be announced.

With their content continuing to generate debate, Sarandos’ comments suggest that Netflix is standing by its partnership with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—whether critics like it or not.
