It has been 13 years since Kate Middleton delivered her first-ever public speech in an official capacity—yet, even today, there’s still one aspect of royal life that she finds "nerve-wracking."

Kate, 42, gave her debut speech in March 2012 at the opening of a children’s hospice run by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), one of her first patronages after marrying Prince William. Standing in front of a crowd, she admitted to feeling understandably nervous as she addressed the room.

Despite her initial nerves, Kate has come a long way, gaining praise for her poise and confidence in public speaking over the years.

Renowned royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk, highlighting Kate’s remarkable progress in handling public engagements.

“Catherine’s public speaking style has come a long way from her early attempts. Her speeches now reflect her natural charm and enthusiasm. It is no mean feat to acclimatize oneself to the demands of one of the most pressurized public roles in the world—that of the future Queen of England.”

At the time of her first speech, the then-Duchess of Cambridge reportedly confided in a guest, saying:

"I find doing speeches nerve-wracking."

Fitzwilliams noted that even in her earlier years, such as her appearance with the so-called "Fab Four", Kate seemed slightly uneasy. However, she now delivers speeches with confidence and conviction, thanks to experience and deep passion for her charitable work.
