Meghan Markle has once again become the subject of brutal ridicule, this time on a popular US talk show, as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon took aim at her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
Since its release earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex’s eight-part lifestyle series has been met with mixed reactions, drawing heavy criticism from social media users and even well-known celebrities.
During the Trivia Night segment of The Tonight Show, Fallon’s sidekick, Steve Higgins, took a jab at Meghan’s now-infamous scene where she transferred store-bought pretzels into her own labeled bag.
Steve asked Jimmy: "Ready? You’re going to get this. What is the number one question that mystifies scientists?"
Jimmy confidently replied, "Is there life on another planet?"
Steve then delivered the punchline: "Ooh, no. Why does Meghan Markle make her own pretzel bags? They don’t know why."
The audience erupted into laughter, with Fallon chuckling before adding his own take: "That’s interesting. She takes it from one bag and puts it in another bag, and that confuses people."
The joke stems from a moment in With Love, Meghan where the Duchess of Sussex is seen transferring pre-packaged peanut butter pretzels from their original Trader Joe’s packaging into a personalized bag with a label.
Meghan can be heard explaining: "This, we’re just going to put into a different bag."
She then justified her reasoning, despite confirming that her guest, celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, does not have a nut allergy.
"I know that Daniel loves peanut butter, but I’m going to label this anyway. You always want to be conscious if someone has a nut allergy," she said.
Meghan then added: "I'm packing this all up so I can take it home and prep the guest room."
As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show features her "reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” along with her celebrity friends as they roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
