Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has been met with harsh criticism, leading to brutal online mockery.
However, PR expert Edward Coram-James believes that the Duchess of Sussex still has a chance to recover—but only if she follows one of two key strategies.
Speaking to The Mirror, Coram-James explained that Meghan could choose to ignore the backlash and continue pursuing her passions, or she could take strategic action to repair her image.
"On With Love, Meghan, the Duchess [of Sussex] is glowing, surrounded by seemingly close friends and family, in stunning Montecito, which she calls home. She seems happy—it's her passion project. She’s experimenting and is lucky enough to have the resources and platform to share her passion," he said.
He compared Meghan’s journey to that of Brooklyn Beckham, who has experimented with multiple careers, including cooking and photography, before finding his niche.
"Some people have compared her to Brooklyn Beckham, not knowing his forte, but experimenting with everything from cooking to photography, and I don’t think this is a bad thing at all," he added.
According to the PR expert, Meghan has two choices in dealing with the negativity: ignore the critics—by disregarding the negative reviews, Meghan could continue doing what she enjoys, regardless of public perception.
She could also rebrand and adapt—she could reassess her approach, take feedback into account, and make adjustments to connect better with her audience.
"Perhaps she simply won’t care about the reviews and expected bad feedback if she has any self-awareness," Coram-James suggested.
"It might be best to simply ignore them and continue doing what she does best: making headlines as she continues her journey post-royal life," he concluded.
As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show features her "reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” along with her celebrity friends as they roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
