Ariana Grande's Oscars appearance on Sunday night sparked mixed reactions among fans due to her pale pink gown from Schiaparelli's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
The 31-year-old singer has adhered to a muted color palette throughout award season, primarily opting for pink and champagne-colored outfits.
Though nominated for major awards for her role as Glinda in Wicked, Ariana did not secure any wins. Nonetheless, her red carpet appearances have drawn attention, particularly due to her consistent choice of pastel tones. Ariana has explained that her decision to stick to baby pink and neutral colors is inspired by her character Glinda the Good Witch, who famously wore a puffy pink ballgown. In contrast, her co-star Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elpheba, has embraced green and black hues to represent her character.
Ariana previously shared that she manifested her role as Glinda by collecting pink clothing, telling People Magazine that she had a dedicated portion of her closet filled with pink tops. However, the singer's pale wardrobe has also led to concerns about her appearance, with some fans commenting on her "strikingly thin" look. Experts have suggested that her bleached eyebrows and blonde hair, combined with pastel outfits, may be contributing to her washed-out appearance.
Aesthetics expert Amish Patel pointed out that Ariana's look is likely the result of her transformation for the Wicked role, including ditching her fake tan and hair extensions. While some harsh lighting on red carpets may contribute to the perception of her "gaunt" appearance, Patel noted that Ariana’s skin still looks healthy and well-maintained.
Later in the evening, Ariana changed into a ruby red gown to join Cynthia for the opening of the Oscars ceremony.
