James Hewitt, the former lover of Princess Diana, has weighed in on the ongoing rift between Prince William and Prince Harry, saying the late princess would have been deeply disappointed by the tensions between her sons.

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, the 66-year-old former British army officer was asked about the ongoing royal family tensions. Though he was primarily there to discuss his humanitarian work with Operations Safedrop, the conversation inevitably turned to his past connection with the palace.

When asked about the strained relationship between Prince William, 42, and Prince Harry, 40, Hewitt responded: "I think any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, as you put it. And she'd do her best to try and get them together."

Hewitt’s comments come shortly after former royal aide Jason Knauf made rare remarks about the brothers’ fractured relationship during a special episode of 60 Minutes.

Knauf acknowledged the pain the feud has caused within the royal family but emphasized that Prince William has chosen to keep his thoughts private.

"It’s very difficult to have this stuff play out in the public eye, but [William] has chosen to keep his thoughts on it private, and I think all of us who know him really have to respect that we should do the same," Knauf explained.

Despite remaining tight-lipped, Knauf admitted the situation has been "hard and sad", adding:

"But I will say, of course, it’s been hard and sad, especially for all of us who know both of them."

Do Prince Harry and Prince William still speak to each other?

Prince William has not publicly responded to Harry’s claims or his memoir. In an interview promoting his book, Harry revealed that he is not currently on speaking terms with his brother.
