Shakira urges media to 'respect children's privacy' following Miami move

Shakira is requesting privacy for her kids.

The 46-year-old singer has penned an open letter to “respected friends, journalists, and media outlets,” and asked them to respect the privacy of her kids, who recently started their new life in Miami.

“At this moment of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent curiosity from the press around me and my family,” she wrote on Instagram. “Yet my children, Milan and Sasha have lived a very difficult year, suffering an incessant siege and relentless pursuit by paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.”

The Columbian singer requested the paparazzi and media outlets to “refrain from following them to and from school, waiting for them at the door of our house, or pursuing them to their extracurricular and leisure activities, as has happened every day in Barcelona in order to obtain photographic captures or better ratings.”

She expected them to “behave in the most humane way possible with them” and take into account that “they are two minors aged 8 and 10 who only wish to be able to go out on the street and attend school feeling safe and having the peace of mind of not being pursued or subjected to constant camera scrutiny.”

“I extend this request not only as an artist, but also as a mother who wishes to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves,” she added.

The statement comes after the Hips Don’t Lie singer moved to Miami in pursuit of a better life for kids.

It has been reported that the singer had been dating someone from Miami for some time
