Gerard Pique has landed in hot water after his alleged xenophobic remarks.

The Spanish football addressed the negativity and criticism he has received online since his breakup with Shakira during an interview, saying, “My ex is Latin American, and you don’t know what I’ve gotten on social media from her fans.”

“These people have no lives. Thousands of barbarities, and I don’t care at all,” he lamented.

Fans were quick to call out Pique for making negative generalizations about Latin American people as well defend the Waka Waka singer.

“Did Gerard pique, a Spanish person, just insult Latin Americans because he’s hurt over some nasty comments from people online?” a user expressed their disdain on Twitter.

“Also, it’s not only Latin Americans who have been defending shakira, the rest of us have too. He’s just coming off as xenophobic,” they noted.

A second penned: “Not Gerard Pique being xenophobic towards my latino people! Shakira I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through.”

Shakira Hits Back at Gerard Pique:

The Columbian singer, who recently moved to Miami with her kids, took to Twitter and subtly shut down his comments.

“Proud to be Latin American,” she wrote in Spanish, before adding emojis of the flags of 29 nations, including Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.

Shakira and Pique called it quits on their relationship of 11 years after the latter allegedly cheated on the singer with his current girlfriend Clara Chia.
